How did it all started ???..Maybe Satan made a change in the genealogy of our ancestors way back and genes with minor alternation came to this age....years after and we see little by little the vanquishing of Gods, even in Literature.
"Then they said to the MIND, chant the (Udgitha) for us: "so be it' - said the mind and chanted for them. Whatever enjoyment there is in the mind it secured for the Gods by chanting that it thought well was for itself. The demons knew verily by this chanter they will overcome us, They rushed upon it and pierced it with evil. Likewise, they said to the eye :chant (the udgitha) for us. so be it said the eye and chanted for them. Whatever enjoyment there in the eye it secured for the Gods by chanting, that it saw well for itself. The demons knew verily by this chanter they will overcome us.They rushed upon it and pierced it with evil. That evil which comes in seeing what is improper, that is that evil. - ब्रह्मारयांक उपनिषद्

But they are no longer made up of just the one family. It hardly matters that their names are often exotic and unpronounceable,. The power of thier stories is still at work. Yet there is something new and unusual about the situation. This composite tribe of Gods now exists only in its stories and scattered idols. The way of Cult and rituals is harred, either because there is no longer a group of devotee who carry out the rituals gestures, or because even when someone does perform these gestures they stop short. The statue of Shiva and Vishnu still drip with offerings, but Varuna is a remote and shapeless entity to the Indian of today, while Prajapati is only to be found in Books.
